Old Testament:  Psalms 91-93

Psalms 91

 1  Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
  will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
 2  This I declare about the LORD:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
  he is my God, and I trust him.
 3  For he will rescue you from every trap
  and protect you from deadly disease.
 4  He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.  5  Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
  nor the arrow that flies in the day.
 6  Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
  nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
 7  Though a thousand fall at your side,
  though ten thousand are dying around you,
  these evils will not touch you.
 8  Just open your eyes,
  and see how the wicked are punished.

 9  If you make the LORD your refuge,
  if you make the Most High your shelter,
 10  no evil will conquer you;
  no plague will come near your home.
 11  For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.  12  They will hold you up with their hands
  so you won't even hurt your foot on a stone.
 13  You will trample upon lions and cobras;
  you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!

 14  The LORD says, "I will rescue those who love me.
  I will protect those who trust in my name.
 15  "When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them."  16  I will reward them with a long life
  and give them my salvation."

Psalms 92

A psalm. A song to be sung on the Sabbath Day.
 1  It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to the Most High.  2  It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning,
  your faithfulness in the evening,
 3  accompanied by the ten-stringed harp
  and the melody of the lyre.

 4  You thrill me, LORD, with all you have done for me!
  I sing for joy because of what you have done.
 5  O LORD, what great works you do!
  And how deep are your thoughts.
 6  Only a simpleton would not know,
  and only a fool would not understand this:
 7  Though the wicked sprout like weeds
  and evildoers flourish,
  they will be destroyed forever.

 8  But you, O LORD, will be exalted forever.
 9  Your enemies, LORD, will surely perish;
  all evildoers will be scattered.
 10  But you have made me as strong as a wild ox.
  You have anointed me with the finest oil.
 11  My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies;
  my ears have heard the defeat of my wicked opponents.
 12  But the godly will flourish like palm trees
  and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
 13  For they are transplanted to the LORD's own house.
  They flourish in the courts of our God.
 14  Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green.  15  They will declare, "The LORD is just!
  He is my rock!
  There is no evil in him!"

Psalms 93

 1  The LORD is king! He is robed in majesty.
  Indeed, the LORD is robed in majesty and armed with strength.
The world stands firm
  and cannot be shaken.

 2  Your throne, O LORD, has stood from time immemorial.
  You yourself are from the everlasting past.
 3  The floods have risen up, O LORD.
  The floods have roared like thunder;
  the floods have lifted their pounding waves.
 4  But mightier than the violent raging of the seas,
  mightier than the breakers on the shore—
  the LORD above is mightier than these!
 5  Your royal laws cannot be changed.
  Your reign, O LORD, is holy forever and ever.

New Testament:  Romans 15:1-13

Romans 15 : 1-13

Living to Please Others
 1  We who are strong must be considerate of those who are sensitive about things like this. We must not just please ourselves.  2  We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord.  3  For even Christ didn't live to please himself. As the Scriptures say, "The insults of those who insult you, O God, have fallen on me." [3]   4  Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God's promises to be fulfilled.    5  May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus.  6  Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
   7  Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory.  8  Remember that Christ came as a servant to the Jews [8]  to show that God is true to the promises he made to their ancestors.  9  He also came so that the Gentiles might give glory to God for his mercies to them. That is what the psalmist meant when he wrote:

"For this, I will praise you among the Gentiles;
  I will sing praises to your name." [9]

 10  And in another place it is written,

"Rejoice with his people,
  you Gentiles." [10]

 11  And yet again,

"Praise the LORD, all you Gentiles.
  Praise him, all you people of the earth." [11]

 12  And in another place Isaiah said,

"The heir to David's throne [12]  will come,
  and he will rule over the Gentiles.
They will place their hope on him." [12]

   13  I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
